Detection of very small Neutrino Masses in double-beta decay
In the last decade evidence has emerged for finite neutrino
masses. However this remarkable result, based on the observation
of neutrino oscillations, gives us no information on the absolute
size of neutrino masses. We will describe a new method that may
extend our direct mass sensitivity by about two orders of
magnitude. This new technique, employing double-beta decay in
xenon-136, will result in a challenging "atomic physics experiment
in a particle physics detector".
