Localizing gravity on smooth branes
It has recently been realized that theories with large extra
dimensions may suggest a new and unconventional solution to the
hierarchy problem. In addition, models with warped dimensions can
lead to the localization of gravity on branes embedded in
higher-dimensional theories. I review the models of gravity
localization. I then discuss generalizations of these models to
smooth gravitational backgrounds with or without scalar fields. I
study the graviton ground state and continuum of Kaluza-Klein
excitations, and derive general classes of metrics which lead to
localized four dimensional gravity.
