1) Monitor did not include SM5 because burst was reported before the SM5 GC
buffer had read out. 2 of the hits in this burst are rejected because they
were SM6 single box hits coincident with SM5 hits. This is an inherent
limitation of the monitor. If this burst had been a more compelling
candidate, Kate's analysis would have rejected these hits in a post-run.
I pick up 4 additional single box events from SM5 during the burst
interval, all below 5 MeV.
2) One additional single box hit is rejected due to coincidence with a Bari
trigger.
3) The first hit in the burst can probably be rejected because the actual
energy is less than 10 MeV, but Kate and I are in the middle of a vigorous
debate on this issue. This event is near the end of the tank (TDCZ=-549),
so the energy reconstructed at the near end of the tank is extremely
sensitive to the position, whereas the energy reconstructed at the far end
is insensitive to position. The near end gives 11 MeV, but the far end
gives 8.5 MeV. A shift of 8 cm causes the near end to also give 8.5 MeV.
I think the best solution is probably to change the way SAERPH weights the
two tank ends when averaging the energies. When the TDCZ is a few cm from
the window, the biggest uncertainty is at the near end, but SAERPH assumes
the exact opposite because it weights on photoelectron statistics only.
4) A number of discrepancies between my energies and positions and Kate's
can probably be tracked to using different calibration constants. I'm
using the VAXGS::DISK$MACRO:[MACROCAL.DB] stuff, which has constants for
run 9873.
5) Two additional events not rejected by the monitor can be eliminated if
we use a cut on ADCZ/TDCZ difference. Making some cut on ADCZ vs. TDCZ is
the best way to reject radioactive coincidences. For the two events in
this burst, the ADCZ/TDCZ difference is greater than 300 cm.
6) One single box event is rejected by the monitor because it is within 400
usec of another hit. The monitor has only 1 msec time reconstruction
accuracy, whereas a post-run analysis can reconstruct with 50 usec
resolution.
7) Net result: Monitor gives 7 hits, 2 are multi-box, 1 coincident with
Bari trigger, 1 near tank end, and 2 with ADCZ/TDCZ mismatch, leaving 1 hit
plus one additional hit rejected by monitor but kept post-run.
