Ciao a tutti,
For the period 16-SEP-1999, 11:20 till 16-SEP-1999:18:00 (solar time),
MACRO was taking data on the backup ACQ system (VSMAC1). The relevant run #'s
are 91539, 91540 and 91541; these are *not* calibration runs, but should be
used for analyses as NORMAL DATA instead (they are flagged as such by LGB,
anyways.)
It all started at ~ 10:30 this morning (run 18262 had just started)
when a group of people (according to the guards at the entrance of the
underground Lab, these are independent contractors working for the safety
service of LNGS) started testing the various alarms on MACRO's counting
room and the computer room, where VXMACA and VXMACB live.
At some point, the "Local>" prompt appeared on the main console and
connections to VXMACA became impossible. Then, Hassan Dekhissi who was
on shift in the counting room summoned Nicola Zaccheo and together with
Chuck Lane checked the computer room. On VXMACA's system console, there
were clear signs of a system reboot and at the same time, the safety
group people were lifting the floor tiles to check cabling. When asked,
they responded that they hadn't touched anything; nevertheless, it is
far more probable that they accidentally cycled the power on VXMACA.
Attempts to restart the run on VXMACA failed (ACQ files from last run
had not been closed properly) and immediately Sandro Marini and Mario
Sitta were contacted. Sandro Marini cleaned up those files and run 18267
started with full MACRO on VXMACA.
