Hi all,

First of all, if you are reading this e-mail on a VAX/VMS machine you
most probably don't need to read the rest.

This is regarding the UNIX machines available at Gran Sasso. As it was
advertised more than a month ago, we now have an 8GB new disk installed
on rsgs02 at Gran Sasso. The disk is partitioned in four units of 2GB
each. Their names are /macrous1, /macrous2, /macrous3 and /macrous4.
This area is generally available to all MACRO USA collaborators and is
intended to make dealing with the MACRO data more managable. I don't know
at this moment how people who perform data analysis on unix would like to
organize the above area. I propose dedicating at least one partition
(/macrous4) to MACRO RUNs *only* so that to avoid multiple users creating
multiple copies of the same datafile. Please ftp runs in this area under
the macro general account.

Please let me know if you're planning to use a big fraction of the disks
for any reason other than detector monitoring purposes. Also, keep in mind
that we are not committed to any scheduled backup of this new area. Finally,
cleanups of the disk will happen any time there will be no space on it
to save at least 4 MACRO RUNs (1.3GB ~ 1 MACRO liveday).
