The WORK CALIBRATION DATABASE at Gran Sasso is updated with constants up to
"reference" RUN 13936 (07-MAY-1997). The update of the OFFICIAL db is eminent
but is subject to verification of the constants' quality. PLEASE, run your
analyses using these constants and give feedback.
In tracking down calibration persistent problems, a probable geometry
discrepancy (in CALMOD) at the level of ~20cm of all the vertical 8th
counters (e.g. 1E08, 2W08 etc...) was encountered. This may account for
the inability of the calibration software to handle these counters.
If you have observed systematics with the vertical 8th counters, talk to
Ioanni and compare your observations.

Work Summary
============
As you know, the official calibration DB at Gran Sasso
(in VAXGS::DISK$MACRO:[MACROCAL.DB]) is left at "reference" RUN number 12822
(25-SEP-1996).
Ioannis has been working in bringing this up to today's runs. As of this
moment, the WORK calibration DB at Gran Sasso
(in VAXGS::DISK$MACRO:[MACROCAL.CALMOD.WORK.DB]) is updated to "reference"
RUN 13936 (07-MAY-1997). For the generation of these constants, muon and
LED runs were used (.no. Laser). Very soon (a matter of week), the work DB at
GS will be at the current run.
Please, run your analyses using the WORK database (initialize calmod through
VAXGS::DISK$MACRO:[MACROCAL.CALMOD.WORK]SETUP_CALIB.COM) and give us feedback
as to the quality of the calibration constants.

Scintillator Box Geometry Issues
================================
For the months Ioannis was driving the calibration machine, all vertical
8th counters reported persistent problems that were most likely related
to the very poor statistics for these counters.
The official CALMOD geometry database lists all vertical counters as having
11.19m length. Ioannis and Stefano made a rough survey of the vertical counters
in MACRO's East face revealed these counters are 20-30cm shorter (end-to-end)
with respect to the rest. This is not present in the geometry DB.
The present configuration of all vertical counters in MACRO makes it almost
impossible to measure the active part of each of them; if anybody
recollects anything special about the vertical counters, please send
us a line.
