Dear MACRO people,

This note is meant to function as an electronic log of the operations
performed in MACRO so far in order to address the WFD problem.

As I described in a previous news item, SM3 has undergone the fanout
and WFD capacitor change; this was completed on May 2, 1997 and the
first MACRO run after that was RUN 13912.
Yesterday May 22, 1997 we modified the fanouts (*only*, not the WFDs
yet because of lack of the right parts) in SM4. The first MACRO run after
that was RUN 14006.

Given the fact that the procedure involves unplugging all PMT cables
(that go to all trigger systems) and removing every single fanout card,
we made every reasonable effort during this operation to guarantee a
faultless job. I remind you that the fanout output used by the WFD *only*
was modified, so the operation should be completely transparent to the
rest of the systems (also the fanout assignment to each group of PMTs was
kept the same).
Actually, Paolo, Stefano, Massimo, Ioannis and Greg did an excellent
job in cracking down noisy fanouts and making sure that the PMT signal
quality used for the TOHM/WFD is now *better* than before.

*** Please look carefully at the data of each trigger system and report ***
*** to us of any observed problems or anomalies. ***

Further work will be scheduled in accordance with the run coordinator
and will be communicated through this mail list.
