Summer 1999
The laboratory is an important part of the course. There will be a total of 8 experiments to perform.
Laboratory 1 (SB2): | TR 8:00-10:30 am | SCI B23 | Dimitrije Stepanenko |
Laboratory 2 (SB3): | TR 1:00-3:30 pm | SCI B23 | Zhiheng Liu |
The lab manual contains instructions, questions, and a data sheet for each experiment. You can get this from the BU bookstore.
Labs will be located in SCI B9-B23. Each week the room assignment will be posted on all the lab room doors. Look for the title of the experiment you will perform to find the correct room.
During the laboratory session, you must perform the experiment and analyze the data. The lab report is due at the end of the lab session. Late reports will not be graded. Please prepare in advance for each laboratory.
You will need two quadrille lab notebooks; you will keep one while the other one is being graded by your TF.
Please use the standard lab report format to write up your report.
In order to pass the course you must turn in at least 7 of the 8 lab reports. Your lab grade will be an average of your best 7.
The TF will start each lab session with a summary of the experiment's purpose and the important procedures, also describing any safety precautions. Please pay close attention. Also, the TF will announce any changes to the questions to be answered in the lab manual. The TF will also be available to answer questions during the lab.
Remember that the purpose of the lab is to understand physical processes, not to get the "right answer". Any alteration of actual data obtained during the experiment will result in receiving no credit for the lab report.
