Working group meeting

Dear Supernova Network working group people,

Due in part to LVD's recent integration into the Network, it is
indeed time to have at the very least a working group meeting to discuss
the most pressing inter-experiment issues. Early April sounds fine, but
this is obviously much too little time to arrange economical international
_or_ domestic travel for most people. Therefore, a video conference is
likely the best solution.

Having set up international video hookups in the past, I can tell
you that this is an inexpensive and effective way to get a short, focused
meeting together on relatively short notice. How does April 7th (a
Wednesday) or 9th (a Friday) sound?

How many of you have access to a video conferencing facility? Let
us know. If too few people have such access then we may have to resort to
a telephone conference call... useful, but certainly not as good!

As you may recall from the September meeting, at that time it was
agreed that I would host the next major Supernova Network meeting at
Irvine, presumably sometime this season. Taking into account the current
experimental status of the participating and prospective experiments and
the amount of time the theory subgroup said they needed to make
significant progress on more detailed modeling of the neutrino burst, it
strikes me that the most efficient course of action is to have a limited
working group video meeting as soon as possible, and our second, major
meeting sometime this fall or winter in California. All are welcome!

As far as the upcoming (video?) meeting is concerned, it will be
important to have a well-defined agenda so agreements can be reached on as
many critical points as possible. Find out if there are any outstanding
SN Network issues which your collaborations are concerned about - please
use the next week or so to solicit opinions. You can then relay these
issues to this group as a whole via e-mail before the start of the
meeting, and a focused agenda will be put together. If we are to move
from "test mode" to announcing coincidences to the community then we want
to be sure that all participating experiments are comfortable with the
system!

Thanks,
-Mark (mvagins@uci.edu)
