Each institution is responsible for one shift per MACRO author per shift cycle.
Representatives should provide shiftworker names at least six weeks in advance.
Trades are possible, but like other changes they must be preapproved and in
general institutions are strongly discouraged from holding overlapping shifts.
In no case may a single person simultaneously fill two shifts. The US Spokesman
(Barry Barish) is the official administrator of the shift schedule, but routine
bookkeeping can be handled through the US physicist in charge (address below).
There are two parallel staggered shifts, each two weeks long (Monday through
two Sundays), with weekly planning meetings on Mondays at 6:00 PM in the MACRO
terminal room. Shiftworkers are expected to spend full time on detector tasks
as prioritized by the collaboration, including daily data quality duties during
their first week and production of the shift report in their second week.
MACRO collaborators spending time at the Gran Sasso exclusive of their shift
duties are asked to inform the pic of their plans in order to coordinate
scheduling and make their time in Italy as productive as possible.
