*** Danilo is our new technician who started working at LNGS on
3 May 1996. This was his first macro-usa meeting.
Welcome to the crew Danilo!

--Pisa News--
Roberto Pazzi reported there were 2 phrase channels giving
problems and he checked those on 15 May 1996.
The online histograms for PISA data were out of date so have
been removed.
--HIPT News--
5TL1 (56:5tl-1h) has not been triggering and Paolo is working
on fixing it.
--TOHM News--
TOHM noise on one channel of sm 1 was solved by gently
tapping the module.
TOHM cables for sm 3 and 4 have been labeled by Stefano.
Erik reports that the online histograms for the TOHM follow
the same box numbering scheme as the ERP.
--LIP News--
LIP module on sm 2 stopped taking data on 1 May 1996. After
much effort to understand the problem and test the spare, the LIP
trigger was restored to SM2 starting with run 12235 by replacing the
module with the spare.
Erik reports that online histograms for LIP are now available
(161-166) so you can get a real time picture of the trigger by simply
logging under MACRORUN. The online histograms for LIP follow the same
box numbering scheme as ERP (and TOHM,now!).
--Calibration News--
-LASER-
Plasma cartridge for sm 2 lower has been replaced and now works
fine.
Laser calibration settings have been adjusted to improve the
quality of the calibration data and continues to need some fine tuning.
6S01, 1T09, 2T12, 5T09, 5E11, 6T10 do not appear in laser
calibration data. I note that the attico tanks listed here had working
laser fibers as of September 1994. Several fibers on the attico were
cable tied very tightly to the yellow support bar such that the plastic
covering on the cable is dented. Others were under great tension coming
out of the protective plastic tubing that has been added. These have
been adjusted in an effort to prevent any (further) damage.
These that are not working will probably need to be replaced.
Does anyone know where the list of laser fiber number--tank end
correspondence is located? It is not on the shelves with the other
MACRO manuals and tank end logs where it used to live.
-LED-
LED/TDC calibration delays have been added to allow data
from the end faces.
As an attempt at recording led's with consistent problems, a list
of led's that are not working or not working well enough to give usable
led/tdc calibration data has been started in disk$macro:[macrocal.docs].
There are 6 tanks for which there is not calibration data and about
30 tank ends with at least one led poorly functional.
Danilo and Stefano have been testing epoxy glue on leds in an
effort to design an led replacement system that utilizes the fill pipes
in the tanks. They are testing their model in some scintillator to
confirm that it will not cause problems.
Hunmoo has been working on a calibration program that will
model upward going muons and ran it the first time on 22 May 1996.
--Other MACRO items--
>Erp South face sometimes stops taking data before the end of the run.
>High Voltage Error and Fault messages have been studied by Paolo to
understand the alarms we have been getting. This is still a work in
progress so stay tuned. Any Fault message seen in the near future
should be checked quickly.
>Emily is dutiful in reminding us that the voltage on 2T14 is not always
exactly what we ask of it. The voltage appears to be stable and is
what was set at the last gain setting, so no action will be taken on this.
>The missing calibration related .trk and .cal files have been remade
and are now backup on tape. A procedure has been developed for the
calibration trk and cal files to be backed up to tape at Gran Sasso by
the technicians on shift to ensure their existance when calibration
constants are computed.
>The muon and GC plane rates for scintillator data computed by bmonitor
have been too high. This was due to the fake bari box trigger being
added to these rates. This was fixed on 18 May 96.
>Erik has been producing lots of files that contain useful monitoring
information on a run by run basis. These are kept in
vxmacb::$1$dia2:[scra.kats.stat].
