MACRO Shift Report
Mar 11, 1997

Present: L. Gray, E. and I. Katsavounidis,
S. Kyriazopoulou, G. Messimo, J. Musser (scribe), P. Saggese, and S. Stalio

The run proceeded smoothly though this time period. The work taking place at the
lab is summarized below.

L Gray:
Lori is working towards a monopole simulation/calibration system using
the leds. This system is also intended for use as a WFD diagnostic. She reports
a reasonably small number of tanks with malfunctioning leds, and some misc.
weird behavior in the switchbox system, which she is in the process of
diagnosing.

E Katsavounidis:
Amongst other duties, Erik is putting together a web-based online
monitor for MACRO, which looks to me like it will be very useful. Daily
updates of histograms, rates, the logbook, etc are available. The page is
located at
http://rsgs02.lngs.infn.it/macro/papers/usashift/mol.html
It is password protected - username=macroexp, standard password.

He has also been working on getting the fast monopole trigger cals
working again - he has changed the gpib library being linked to and things are
basically now working.

Also, Erik is looking into the 'overflows' which occur occur on about
10% of the intererp events. No news yet.

I. Katsavounidis

Ionnis worked this week with me on erp calibration hardware and
software. There was a lot of progess in coming up to speed on the calibration
software - the goal here is to have the calibrations done at the lab in real
time, and it looks like this is in good hands. Ionnis is also working on the
LUT setting. The muons look good, but there are problems which need looking
into in the GC settings on something like 10% of the boxes. Overall, the GC
rates are equalized to within factors of two, but he will continue to tweak the
problem boxes.

G. Messimo
Spare fannouts are being fixed, and along the way a standard procedure
for checkout and repair of fannouts has been developed.

P. Saggese
Has been working on the tohm clock distribution. The chip responsible
for this has had a high failure rate do to overheating. He found that many
inputs were floating, and that the power load dropped substantially when this
was corrected. This should fix this problem.

S. Stalio
Is in the process of writing a 'how to' manual for general maintainance
and repair of the scintillation system. (ie gain setting procedure, how to
open a tank end...) In addition, has performed a number of repairs - replaced
PMT on 6e04, fixed base on 6e05, replaced splitter box on 3b09.

J. Musser
In addition to working with Ionnis, get a spare erp supervisor up and
running.
