Just a small addition to Chiaki's summary:  ANA also has flights 
to Toyama from Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya, so if you can get a 
flight from the US to one of these cities, you can make an easy
connection to Toyama without having to haul your luggage on the 
bus/train/whatever.  (But leave a couple of hours to
clear customs and such, of course.)

The flight schedules for these cities:
