Present at the Gran Sasso: Chris One and Chris Two, Nat Longley (reporting),
Alessandro Baldini, Roberto Pazzi, Marco Grassi, Nina Lu, Erik Katsavounidis,
Lynn Miller, Stu Mufson, Maurizio Goretti, Ed Michlovich, and
Paolo Mosca (whew!).
The BIG NEWS is that Erik and Alessandra are finally going to tie the knot this
next week in Greece. We are all thrilled for them. Erik says the wedding
banquet _starts_ at 9:30 PM. Erik mentioned that there would indeed be some
(quite moderate) drinking, but just for the first twelve hours or so.
Karen and Emily left for the US (along with Chris One and Kate) on the
fourteenth. So now she's watching Seinfeld and ordering pizza, I'm in the
tunnel recabling the CAMAC highway. Not that I'm bitter. Both made the
flight just fine (thanks to Chris One and Kate).
Ed M, Nat, Lynn, Chris Two, and Nina all hit the first annual Bazzano Sagra on
Sunday night... this particular Sagra did not appear to have a theme outside
of "shut up and eat," but that was OK. Great Polka band afterwards, which Nina
used to show Ed M and Nat just how little natural dancing talent they really
had.
Chris Two is in Trieste hoping that things in Bosnia stay calm for the two
weeks of his summer school. Nina may join him for the second week.
Oh... you want to hear about the detector? Big Kudos to everyone at the LNGS
(this is the sound of us patting ourselves on the back) for getting the WFD and
LIP whipped into shape. Everyone at the lab took part and things look very
good, althoug the inter-LIP events will need new EPROMS to work exactly right.
Doug will bring them next week.
There was also lots of work on the CAMAC highway, on LUTs, and what have you in
a very productive last two weeks (notice that we skipped last week's meeting
and shift report because we were under the wire on Chris One and Kate's return
to the US). In particular Ed M finished the pmt performance database package.

PS. Special bonus item for those who managed to read this far... Karen and I
went to Florence a week ago and had a great time. She got is a room in La
Pensione Sorelle Bandini (the Bandini Sisters) which was subtitled "The
Pensione with the Big Porch," and with good reason. Fantastic place, and of
course the room had a _fabulous_ view. The lower part of the hotel was filled
with a University of Kentucky art and art history group, whose head told us
that we infact had _The_ Room with a View: that is, the one in which E M
Forster stayed while he wrote the novel. This, as you can imagine, was pretty
darn cool.
