Dear Rare Particle Hunters:

Starting last week with RUN 19173 (and also with DD095 in the
reprocessing), the MINI DST production is happening automatically. The so
called "MINI" DSTs are the data set resulting from a set of more
aggressive cuts on Erik's Rare DSTs. The MINI DSTs were designed to
accomodate most monopole analyses with MACRO (including catalysis
searches). There are essentially 4 classes of events including:

        2 Face CIT Monopole events
(Boxes coincident with other boxes in MACRO according
to the ERP do no contribute to form a candidate)
1 Face CIT Monopole + 7 Plane X-ing ST Track
(Boxes coincident with other boxes in MACRO according
to the ERP do no contribute to form a candidate)
2 Face ERP events with DE/DX (3D Tracks) or DE(tot) (wire only)
                greater than 5*I_min
        FMT events

The final data file size is approximately 4MB/run. Extrapolating
over ALL (new) WFD data this should come to a total around 30GB. The data
can currently be found here:

        disk$scrausa6:[raredsts.mini] for current data
        disk$scrausa(7|9|10)[macrodata.mini] for "DD" data

Or here:

        budoe.bu.edu:/pdk6/scratch/corth/mini/ddnow/fzex for current data
        budoe.bu.edu:/pdk6/scratch/corth/mini/ddxxx/fzex for "DD" data

The data format used is "Combined WFD" Zebra format. The
structure of the ZEBRA stores as well as the event-matching algorithm are
described in the "Data Structures" Memo, available here at the MACRO
Online page:

http://wsgs02.lngs.infn.it:8000/macro/protected/wfdindream.html

A replacement for DREAMLIB called wfd_in_dream(.cra) is available
at:
axpgs0.lngs.infn.it:disk$macroscra3:[macrousa0.monitor.mini]wfd_in_dream.cra

In most cases simply linking to this instead of DREAMLIB is all
that should be needed to read the combined data. The job that is used to
make the MINI DSTs is also contained in this area in the cradle
"capitalist.cra". The above is tailored specifically for building and
using under VMS; crippled code that can do everything except convert RAW
data to Combined WFD Zebra data has been successfully run on Solaris and
IRIX (ports to AIX should be mostly trivial, 'TRUE 64 UNIX' [aka DUNIX]
and LINUX doable with some work, perhaps following Mario Sitta's examples)

Enjoy. Do not hesistate to ask for assistance or to send along
suggestions.

        Chris
